Journalist Fatima Karimova discusses the state of press freedom in Azerbaijan, the work of her news portal Mikroskop Media, and her life in exile in Berlin.

Many media professionals leave their homeland and work from exile. This is also true for Azerbaijani journalist Fatima Karimova. She and her husband founded the independent news portal Mikroskop Media in 2018 while in exile in Latvia. They now live and work in Berlin, where they report critically on Azerbaijan and the ruling regime under Ilham Aliyev, and currently on the conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
